Staking without the hype

Nominal rewards, inflation dilution, and commission — how to read the numbers.

Staking headlines often quote eye-catching annual figures. Responsible reading separates nominal staking yield from network inflation dilution and validator commission.

Delegation basics

Token holders delegate stake to validators who participate in consensus. Rewards flow from inflation issuance and transaction fees, minus validator commission. Your wallet shows balances changing; documentation explains the underlying inflation schedule.

Inflation dilution

New issuance increases total supply. If your reward rate roughly tracks inflation, your share of total supply may stay similar while absolute token count rises. Headlines that ignore dilution can mislead newcomers comparing staking to fixed-income products.

Commission and performance

Validators charge commission on rewards. Uptime and skip rates affect effective returns. Client diversity and geographic distribution influence network resilience — topics we cover in workshops without ranking specific operators.

Liquid staking tokens

Some protocols issue receipt tokens representing staked positions. These introduce smart-contract and liquidity risks distinct from native delegation. Read program audits and redemption mechanics before treating LSTs as interchangeable with base tokens.
